Drove the mk1 to work yesterday in the snow for the first time. Being northern VA, everyone was crashing and generally driving like idiots. Took 3 hours to get to work instead of the usual 40 minutes.
Pic for funsies.

Been there, done that, unfortunately did not take any pics of Mk1. diesel pickup in snow.

Is that a fox wagon?

yeah I had it last winter, on skinny cookie cutter snow tires. Thing would move out in anything

I need one, haha. There was a super cheap quantum syncro for sale locally not long ago, but with two mk1s I don't have time for another car right now, unfortunately.

ah too bad, those were beasts for sure. If you ever want to get crazy I know where there are 2 in a junkyard. You know, if you want to AWD a rabbit or something

nice! I have one of those too; 1981. It's currently gutted though, since the previous owner ruined it. Euro front end conversion later this month, 2.8l VR6 and a 5sp going in to replace the diesel. It'll be pig heavy in the nose, but I need it driveable so I can put a 3rd gen 1.8t in the Rabbit.
Eventually going to do a 2.0TDI swap into the truck down the road when I have the funds, and the VR6 will be reused in something else; haven't determined what yet, but it will likely be something batshit. For science!

I would love to do that, hahaha. I have access to a lot of inexpensive mk1 and mk2 shells...
You're in ME or someplace, right? Either of those bad boys in decent shape?

one of them is not TOO bad, interior is junk from a window being left open but that is easy. I will take a closer look next time I am up there. all the syncro bits are there. In Maine though, yes

Solid. I may be interested if they're reasonably cheap and the drivetrain is good. The truck is currently gutted, so it would be a convenient time to swap something more, uh, practical in there.

I like to imagine you purposely spun around a few times to back in to that space.

Nice looking ride.
In my former profession I was doing winter tire testing in Finnish Lapland. My daily driver was a slammed MkII Polo and the locals thought that it was ridiculous. My battery died when temperature got below -30 °C but otherwise Polo worked really well there and getting stuck wasn't even close.

I will ask. I can probably get it for 4-500 top end. Where are you at again?

Mine was sold to paint my Rover, but was sweet while I had it.

"Took 3 hours to get to work instead of the usual 40 minutes."
Why did you even goto work? Thats not worth it.

Tempting...
I'm in northern VA, haha. Probably close to 600 miles from you, I'd guess.
